[ A Short Cabin Description ] [ Stepping through a door that looks suitable for an old fashioned manor home on Earth, the cabin's main room suits the suggested premise. Lamps are electric, but cast a warm light akin to oil lamps than the bright bulbs of modernity. A small kitchen is divided by a counter to the living area; the furniture is warm, antique and aesthetically suitable for living in the early 20th century. Bookshelves are filled and while there are only a few personal touches, they are distinct. A crystalline pillar with a feminine figure trapped in silhouette, a small black and green succulent, and a painting. The last seems unskilled but with made with some thought and effort. Has Yazoo done art for Sheehan before? He'd probably recognize the effort if so.
Other than the personal touches (or maybe especially because), a perfect for a setting of a haunted mansion.
While the kitchen doesn't clash much, there are some very modern elements; the range, a dish washer, some other modern appliances. Overhead lights allow for the option of a brighter room, but they're currently off. ]
[ Vincent will be waiting for the doctor's arrival, so there won't be a long wait before the door's opened and Sheehan's waved in. There's the smell of coffee in the air, freshly brewed. ]
Want anything?
[ ...You know. As if he probably hadn't just brewed a pot to have it on offer just in case. But maybe the doc's a tea person. ]
[Sheehan walks in once invited and shakes his head. Considering the nonsense of the past week(s), he's relatively put together. He's in a suit and tie, his hair tamed back and slicked down, though he carries his hands in his pockets like he's nervous or at least waiting for the other shoe to drop.]
Oh no thank you. Too much of that and I won't sleep for a week.
[ Vincent doesn't appear to have the same misgivings. There's already a mug for him which he grabs before moving to the sitting area. It'll be more comfortable there than the divider counter. There's a couch and there are chairs, all of which look quite comfortable. ]
You've probably guessed what I wanted to discuss. [ Once they're settled he'll get right to it. ] What Trevor did was wrong. His demotion in the wake of it doesn't surprise me. But that doesn't mean I agree that Max, despite the extenuating circumstances and his victims' forgiveness, is complete free of blame for his actions after the Breach.
[ Vincent's regard is steady and calm. There's an air of professionalism present; work mode if you will. ]
That's just my opinion. It's not an accusation. I wanted to talk to you privately to hear your thoughts. As far as you're willing to share them anyway. You're free to ask questions about why I came to that conclusion too.
[ They'd either have this talk or maybe Sheehan would have refused to answer. ]
Do you think Trevor would have attacked him if he thought Max was being treated like he did nothing wrong? You're not someone I'd expect to miss the unspoken consensus a lot of people have here. Not just about Max. I'm running into similar problems about Katie.
[ True, a lot of the issues started before Vincent had taken on the permanent pairing. But it had similar connotations. ]
And of course there are others. People rarely speak up about it because they don't expect anything to get done. So they retaliate. Or do so for the sake of others. Or their own frustrations.
Yes, I do believe Trevor would have done the same thing. This isn't solely about Max. This is Trevor's inability to work together with other people that he may not agree with and needing to take matters into his own hands to an extreme. This is about Trevor believing he knows better than everyone else.
So this isn't about me; this is about the reactions of others.
[He breathes in.]
The more I hear about this, the less I want to talk about it. Rest assured that when someone else with my experience, my knowledge, my education, challenges me about my reaction to Max, then I am more than happy to answer. Otherwise, keep in mind that all of my methods are backed by research done by scientists that know far more than most wardens here. If, of course, you have any questions about what I’ve done that aren’t actually judgemental or thinly veiled attempts at giving me 'pointers' or condemning my, again, research based strategies, I will entertain them.
No, it's not about Max. And it isn't about your decisions in the way you just described. Thought about speaking to you about it and try to understand better, but... changed my mind before I called you. So if some of that bias was left behind... sorry. I also didn't want to hide it.
[ Vincent's expression isn't one to change. His tone is quiet and still professional sounding, but he puts a little emphasis in, as though trying to drive home his meaning. ]
Called you here because you are the only one I know that has the training and qualifications. To work on what can be done to address the assumptions that nothing gets done. That everyone needs to be on their own. Or take punishment in their own hands. I don't expect people to ever trust the Admiral. But I also think the extremes people are going to avoid understanding him. Or trusting each other are doing more harm than good for a lot of people trying to move forward.
[ The red cloaked man glances at the door to his cabin. ]
If that's not enough to convince you, I understand. In the future if I reach out, I'll be more clear about my intentions.
That's a systemic issue, not something that one person can do.
Trust is involved and trust is a resource that is severely lacking, even with wardens. Especially with wardens. We are all protective of our charges and the other charges and we all want to do what's right.
Unfortunately, we can't seem to agree that we are all on the same side of the issue. The enemy is not within us.
Hrmph. [ Sheehan earns a snort that's a mix of humor and perhaps mild frustration. ] That's why I'm trying to find others to work together on addressing it.
[ It's not that he's reaching out to the doctor to hold him accountable to fixing the problem. Vincent himself is interested in doing something. But on the other hand, trying to find people who won't brush him off as though he were on a fool's errand...? ]
...Or at least talk to someone who can give good advice on where to begin.
Mm. [ Vincent makes a noise of agreement. But he also looks like he relaxes a bit now that Sheehan is clearly showing signs he's not ready to bolt out the door. ] Even if it's limited to cooperating when there's overlap and increasing communication, it'd be a start.
[ Heck, even making more use of the inmate ledger would be moving in a favorable direction. He focuses a mild look on his guest. ]
Do you think it's better to find a small group at first, just as a study to prove how effective it is? Or would that cause too much friction?
[ Frankly, Vincent isn't even sure how the named people are going to react. ]
Got any ideas on how to loop some inmates not assigned to those wardens in? Or do you think it's better to begin with the wardens first?
[ It's not that Vincent isn't willing. But goodness knows it's probably not going to be easy to work in unassigned volunteers for an group study to determine what will work in the first place. ]
I can either come up with a basic outline of what the trial entails. Cooperation, communication and... maybe finding a compromise for different philosophies?" It's partial musing. "Or... I can message the wardens we discussed and open the floor to what it should involve."

I wish you would have disclosed the reason for your meeting before you invited me over.
Who says that Max is blameless? Who would you be disagreeing with?

Re: -> action
[He isn't in such a hurry to leave now, but he still pauses.]
To begin, we'd need to find people who actually see the issue as it is.
Re: -> action
[ Heck, even making more use of the inmate ledger would be moving in a favorable direction. He focuses a mild look on his guest. ]
Do you think it's better to find a small group at first, just as a study to prove how effective it is? Or would that cause too much friction?
Re: -> action
[He spreads out his hands.]
Who else?
Re: -> action
Aerith, Zack. Most of the Infirmary wardens.
[ He's come to know them pretty well. ]
I think Saga would be interested. Jesus.
[ There's another pause. ]
I feel some of the inmates would be interested in being involved to provide feedback. Instead of just thrusting it on them.
Re: -> action
[He likes everyone on that list.]
So now we have to extend it to them.
Re: -> action
[ Shorthand for 'should it be made an announcement on the warden filter for others who might want to try' or keep it small?
Well, then there's the inmates, but that can be figured once they see how many wardens are interested. ]
Re: -> action
I don't want to kill thos thing before it's even off the ground.
[Sheehan is so tired of the infighting and the getting nowhere.]
Re: -> action

Re: -> action
Let's get our shit together first like this.
Re: -> action
[ Vincent pauses to think for a few moments. ]
I can either come up with a basic outline of what the trial entails. Cooperation, communication and... maybe finding a compromise for different philosophies?" It's partial musing. "Or... I can message the wardens we discussed and open the floor to what it should involve."
Re: -> action
I want all ideas. I don't want it to seem like we're pushing anything on them.
Re: -> action
[ He remembers who Sheehan said. But if there were any he missed? ]
I think we can end our meeting on this note. Unless there's anything else that's worth mentioning.
Re: -> action
I look forward to it. I'll send you the list.
[And he'll give him a nod of his head before he leaves.]
